THE USEFUL IDEA

Keep one main record you can update. Separate the last confirmed location from a possible sighting, and retire notices when the search ends.

Collect identifying information

Choose a recent, focused photograph, ideally showing the whole animal. Add another image if it reveals a distinctive feature. Describe approximate size, color, collar and visible markings in concrete words; a short list is easier to read than a distressed paragraph.

Record the date, time window and area of the last confirmed contact. Mark missing information as unknown. Do not turn an assumption about the animal’s direction into a fact: other people will organize their help around that account.

Maintain one main record

AI Pet Finder provides lost-pet reports and poster and search-plan resources. Explore the project to organize a record and share a common reference. Publishing a report does not guarantee a reunion.

Test links and QR codes before printing. Check on another device that the correct record opens and the photo remains recognizable at the poster’s actual size. Avoid contradictory versions across groups.

Organize leads without exposing people

  • Ask for the time, area and sighting description; keep it marked as unconfirmed.
  • Use a contact channel you can monitor and avoid publishing your home address or documents.
  • Do not share a contributor’s personal information without permission.
  • Record what you checked and who will take the next step.

A similar photograph or an incoming message is a lead, not confirmed identification. Coordinate cautiously and do not encourage strangers to enter properties or take risks.

Close the communication loop

Update the main record with confirmed changes. When the search ends, tell the channels you used, remove posters where possible and stop circulating contact information as though the case were still active.

The same discipline applies to other public messages. Our answer-focused content guide explains how to organize a question, an answer and supporting evidence. When preparing a notice with someone else, first agree who maintains the current version.
